Friday Bible Study
|
A regular Bible Study session is held on Fridays from 10.30a.m. to 11.30 a.m. in Room 6. It is designed to be a drop in session, so that there is no long term commitment, but an encouragement to read the Bible and think about the relevance of the Word in today's world. Everyone is welcome. If you require coffee or tea you can purchase a cup in the Coffee Bar upstairs. Personal Quotes relating to Friday Bible Study 1 From the Intentional Faith Development Questionnaire "For some time I wished for a communal Bible study group. I find the Friday Bible Study Group really helpful and I hope that it will continue" 2 From March Banner Headlines 2012 LET'S BOOST OUR APPETITE ! by Friar Tuck (Lawrie Ginn) You may not be surprised that, with a name like mine, I'm keenly interested in food. When my wife and I were first married, 50 years ago, neither of us could cook. In time, we became quite good at it, though our kitchen was often the setting for a domestic comedy or a pitched battle. I'm still a keen cook, but I've often proved the truth of a French saying: "Appetite comes as you're eating". Spending hours busily preparing a meal for visitors can be too tiring or stressful for me to feel very hungry. It's only when sitting down and tucking in with good friends around me that the real enjoyment begins. At times I've found the same with the Bible. I've looked at a particular passage and felt that there was nothing new to be said about it, or that I just couldn't see how it was relevant to me or the world around me. If I had some responsibility for helping other people to learn from it, this was particularly stressful ! And then, meeting with friends with whom I was planning a service, or in a Bible study group, I've found that new insights have come, sometimes even flooding in. I can't count the number of times I've started out with a blank sheet of paper and an even blanker mind, yet I've never left such a meeting without a clearer and more positive vision of what God wanted to show us. This has been especially true of the Bible Study group which Robert started on Friday mornings, where we look together at the Gospel passage for the following Sunday. I found this also in the Advent Course, when once again God showed us that there was yet more truth for us to discover in His Word. May we all share that experience in the coming days, whether on Friday mornings, in the Community Bible Study, the Disciple Course, or in the new Lent Course, “Life Attitudes”, that will be starting on 10th March. Grace and Peace – and Bon appétit ! Friar Tuck
