Bible Lands Child Sponsorship

Anas, the child who we have been sponsoring, has now graduated from his school, so we have been allocated a little girl named Dareen aged four. She comes from a poor Muslim family and is living in Jerusalem. We will continue to support her with the usual lunches, film shows and cake stalls. Thank you to those who support this venture. For more details about Dareen please see the Missions  noticeboard in Room 2. Christian is still receiving financial help for his schooling.

What is Bible Lands?

“Bible Lands” as an organisation has its origins in 1854, at a Meeting House in The Strand, with Lord Shaftsbury in the chair. The committee formed at that time had clergy and eminent Victorian philanthropists as members. So began what has proved to be over 150 years of dedicated work by “Bible Lands”.

As far as records show, Banner Cross church has been involved with “Bible Lands” and its child sponsorship scheme since 1976. It has been through the generosity of people at Banner Cross that several boys and girls have had a better future that education brings.

Individuals are giving by subscriptions, others by spontaneous amounts, and many by supporting the fund raising events.

Letters from the children, photos and progress reports are placed on the “Missions” noticeboard in Room 2.  It is encouraging to see these children from needy families benefiting in this way, and to know that a committee started by others so long ago, is still producing results today.
