Covenant Service

The Covenant Service

The Covenant Service takes place in the morning on the first Sunday in January. It is a special communion service in which the people attending are asked to renew their covenant with God.

We are reminded of the covenant that God made with the people of Israel. This covenant was renewed in Jesus Christ our Lord through his life, death and resurrection. Through him all people may be set free from sin and its power, and united with God in love and obediance. The covenant promises us a new life in Christ. We promise to live no longer for ourselves but for God. After asking for forgiveness of our sins we renew our covenant with God.

THE COVENANT

I am no longer my own but yours.

Put me to what you will, rank me with whom you will;

put me to doing, put me to suffering;

let me be employed for you or laid aside for you, exalted for you or brought low for you;

let me be full, let me be empty, let me have all things, let me have nothing;

I freely and wholeheartedly yield all things to your pleasure and disposal.

And now, glorious and blessed God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, you are mine and I am yours.

So be it.

And the covenant now made on earth, let it be ratified in heaven.

Amen

After the covenant has been made every one is invited to partake in Holy Communion.
